Check the Carriage House B&B out on KTBS Channel 3 News

February 12th, 2011 by carriagehouse

Yesterday, the folks from KTBS, Channel 3 news, were here in Jefferson filming a couple of different news segments.  One of the reporters stopped by here to talk to us about the Lanier B& award that we won.  We are hoping that we can be  featured on the news in a few weeks.  Here is a piece that they did on tourism in Jefferson.  You will notice that every one’s favorite B&B was featured heavily in this piece

A Better Way to Stay in Jefferson Texas

February 8th, 2011 by carriagehouse

Do you know the number one reason people don’t stay at a bed and breakfast when they travel is they don’t think of them?  Hotels and motels dominate the market and when travelers look for a place to stay, they unfortunately think of a hotel or a motel.  However, there is a better way to stay!!

When was the last time you went to a hotel and were treated like family?  Bed & Breakfasts are small family owned businesses where the owners/ families are involved in every facet and every detail of the business.  Do we care about you and your comfort?  You bet we do!  Owning a B&B is a lifestyle and most innkeepers are living out their dreams every day.  The most important thing to us is you having an enjoyable stay and we will do just about anything to ensure you have a memorable experience.  Pick a B&B and read their reviews.  Inn-goers rave about the fabulous hospitality and friendship that innkeepers offer during their stay.  In fact, for many B&B travelers, the innkeeper was what made the stay special.  We love what we do and it shows!

Many of the myths that people think of when they think of a Bed & Breakfast are just not true anymore.

Myth #1 I will have to share a bathroom. You will NOT have to share a bathroom with your neighbor.  Trust me, we don’t want to share a bathroom with a stranger and we won’t ask you to either.  Most B&Bs including the Carriage House Bed & Breakfast have private bathrooms in each room.

Myth #2Old houses equals no amenities.  Many travelers assume that because many bed & breakfasts are in old historic homes that they will not have the amenities that they are used to at home.  Not true at all.  Hey we live and work here too!  Most bed and breakfasts offer everything that you would have in a hotel such as Internet and cable TV.  In fact, at the Carriage House B&B, we have replaced all of our old box TVs with brand new flat panel TVs.  So now you can be as comfortable in your room here as you would be at home watching your favorite shows or game.

Myth #3Bed and Breakfasts are only for couples.  Don’t get me wrong, Bed & Breakfasts can be very romantic places.  That is how Tom and I got hooked on B&Bs, but Bed & Breakfasts can be many things to many people.  In fact, bed and breakfasts can be a perfect place for a girl’s weekend or a single guy or girl just trying away from the hustle and bustle of their lives.  I would go so far to say that we can make your stay be whatever you need it to be.  Just let us know and we will do our best to make it happen.

So next time you are looking for a place to stay on your travels.  Remember, there is a better way to stay!  Skip the hotels and motels and stay at a bed and breakfast.  I promise, you will be glad that you did.

January 25th, 2011 by carriagehouse

You would not believe how excited we were here at the Carriage House to find out that we had won another award.  There were hoots and hollers all over the property when the phone call came in letting us know that we had won Lanier BB’s 2011 award for Best Overall Location. Woo Hoo the Crew!!!

We want to give a great big THANK YOU to all of our guests who voted for us and selected us out of a field of 8,500 Bed & Breakfasts for this award.  It means so much to us that our guests were the ones who nominated us and not an industry insider.  Tom and I are fulfilling our dreams of being Bed & Breakfast Innkeepers and we give all that we have each and every day to make our guests feel welcome and loved while they are here.  Thank you to all of our guest for loving us back!

In October, we were notified by TripAdvisor that we had received the 2010 Certificate of Excellence based on our positive reviews and overall score.  We have only been at this for a short time and, so for us to already be winning awards, it is just amazing to us.  Truthfully, we would have been happy to just be nominated.

Yummy New Recipe

February 18th, 2010 by Skyla Grimes

I am always looking for new and decadent recipes to serve my guest. We serve a multi-course gourmet breakfast and Tom and I split the cooking duties. He focuses on the main entree and I focus on the appetizer. I love serving fruit dishes for our first course. I think it really opens up the palate for Tom’s main course.

Many of our guests ask for our recipes and so I decided that I will start to post some of our fan favorites for everyone to try. Here is the first one. Our guests just rave about this one. You can always tell if people really like it or if they are just being polite by the amount of food that comes back to the kitchen. We never have any leftovers with this one.

Grand Oranges and Strawberries

Prep Time 30 Min
Cook Time 5 Min
Chill Time 8 hrs
1/2 cup orange marmalade
1 1/2 cups sparkling white grape juice (chilled)
1/4 cup Grand Marnier
10 to 12 large navel oranges
2 cups sliced fresh strawberries

Melt marmalade in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly; remove from heat, and let cool slightly.

Stir together marmalade, white grape juice, and grand marnier in a large serving dish or bowl until blended. Add orange sections, and gently stir. Cover and chill for 8 hours.

Add strawberries to the oranges in the bowl, and gently toss to coat. Serve in parfait bowls with a mint sprig for a garnish.

First Weekend!

September 21st, 2009 by Skyla Grimes

Every Bed and Breakfast innkeeper that we ever talked to said that there favorite part of the job was making new friends and meeting new people. I have to say that this was our favorite part of our first weekend. Every guest that came through our door was so wonderful! We enjoyed meeting you and having the opportunity to serve you.

The weekend was fast paced and just like for our guests, it was over too soon. We loved every minute and can’t wait to meet our next set of guests. So to Fredricka, Charlotte, David, Irma, Ray, Susan, Monique, Tom, The Stovers, Garth and Audrey…thank you! We were honored to meet you and were flattered that you chose our bed and breakfast.
