Historic Jefferson Railway Engineer for a Day

Engineer for a Day

There are so many really cool and fun things to do in Jefferson Texas.  It is sometimes hard to pick one thing to focus on in this blog.   One of the most interesting things that I think we do here in Jefferson each month is the “Engineer for a Day” program at the Historic Jefferson Railway.

This weekend long program is designed for the true Steam Train enthusiast.  Saturday morning, all of the students learn the mechanics of driving a narrow gauge steam train including locomotive principles, operation of a steam train and of course safe operation of a train.  After the morning’s classroom work, everyone heads out to the Robert E. Lee and fires up the engines.  The rest of the weekend is spent actually operating the steam train.  Everyone gets to experience all four positions on the steam train.  One student will be the Engineer, one will be the Fireman, another the Brakeman, and one will be the Switchman.  Then everyone will rotate until they have been through all four positions and have experienced all of the operations of the train.

If you are interested in this program, please call the Historic Jefferson Railway at (866) 398-2038.  The Carriage House Bed and Breakfast offers discounts to any one participating in the Engineer for a Day program.  So please call us at 903-665-9511 to book your room for the weekend.
