July 4th Holiday Weekend Picnic Ideas

It is only a week until the July 4th weekend and almost everyone gets a 3 day weekend! YAY!! If you are looking for a small town Independence Day Celebration, then Jefferson Texas is your place. The Carriage House Bed & Breakfast still has a few rooms left so give us a call today.

East Texas has so many wonderful places to enjoy the great outdoors. We have some wonderful State Parks with Caddo Lake and Lake o’ the Pines State Parks only 20 minutes away from the B&B. If you would like to spend the day hiking; boating; kayaking; and fishing; then you will need to pack a picnic lunch. The best place to pick up the yummies for your picnic lunch will be at Joseph’s Riverport BBQ only a block and a half away from us here at the Carriage House B&B.

I will put this BBQ up for comparison to anybody elses. The ribs are so tender that the meat just falls off of the bone with just the right amount of bark and sauce to give it that smokey taste. The brisket is tender and succulent and they have fabulous fried catfish. Seriously, this is some good stuff! Joseph’s Riverport BBQ is offering their food in bulk for the holiday weekend. Did you know that yesterday was National Innkeepers Day? Me either.

Tom was in Dallas yesterday and heard on the news radio that yesterday, March 24th, was National Innkeeper Day. So my sweetie went out and bought me a National Innkeeper Day present and took me to the 5 D Cattle Company Steakhouse for a steak dinner. We have been super busy this month and Tom said that he realized that I had been working really hard. He just wanted to recognize me for all of my efforts. What a great guy!! I think I just may keep him.

Gangster Apparel This Weekend in Jefferson, Texas

Okay, here is something fun to do this weekend. Come to Jefferson and see a play at Glory Dayz.

Glory Dayz proudly announces the Jefferson debut of ‘Gangster Apparel’ on stage in the main dining room. Come see “Louie” (Bill Smith) and “Joey” (Andy Looney) in the hilarious two man play about small-time hoods with attire issues!

Louie has a blinding obsession for posh attire and stylized bravado which overshadows his real work as a working street hood while Joey is much less concerned about his lowly appearance and lack of superficial flair but begrudgingly learns the ways of his gregarious partner. The bumbling duo fumbles a “sanctioned hit” and now must consider their sordidly limited and panache challenged options.

If you have never been to Glory Dayz, then you are missing a real treat! Glory Dayz is a retro 50s diner in a old car dealership from the 40s. The place is furnished with wonderful retro lawn furniture from Torrans Manufacturing. Because Mardi Gras is only a week and a half away. The entire diner is decorated for Mardi Gras including the traditional Mardi Gras tree.
