About Carriage House Bed and Breakfast
Relax and revive your soul at one of the most accommodating Jefferson lodging options among the area’s bed and breakfasts – and the only one located in the historic downtown area.
The Carriage House was built in 1920 and is filled with beautifully restored antique furnishings. After having been through many incarnations, the home was converted to a bed and breakfast in 2002 with many of the rooms being renovated in 2009 and 2010. Today this one-story home is both comfortable and welcoming. We hope you find it such a relaxing retreat from your everyday lives that we become one of your favorite Jefferson bed and breakfasts!
From the Innkeeper:
My name is Stephanie Lester and I am looking forward to being your hostess during your stay at the Carriage House. Before your stay here at the Carriage House Bed and Breakfast, I thought you might enjoy getting to know a little about me.
I am what is called a 3rd culture kid. My father is German/ Canadian and my mother is American. Although I was born here in Texas, I was raised in the country of Norway. I moved back here to the states in 1987 after I graduated from High School and I have lived here ever since. I have brought some of my Norwegian culture with me to the bed and breakfast. At Christmas, the house is decorated with Julenissen and straw goats and I have many of my Norwegian keepsakes around the parlor and dining room year round. I also have some Norwegian family recipes that I enjoy serving at breakfast but I promise that I will never serve you Lutefisk.
I moved to Jefferson on August 10th 2009 from McKinney, Texas. Although I enjoyed living in McKinney, I chose to make Jefferson my adopted hometown and I enjoy the many different opportunities that this beautiful little town has to offer. Jefferson is everything that makes a small town a wonderful place to live.
When I moved to Jefferson, I made a commitment to becoming an active part of this vibrant community. This decision has given me the opportunity to get to know many different people and organizations in Jefferson and has made me realize and understand the importance of getting involved. Philosophically, I want to give as much to my hometown as I have been given.
I am a member of the Riverport Ambassadors and have truly enjoyed meeting and interacting with the tourists visiting Jefferson while being in character, clad in period dress. The Carriage House is located in the historic district in Jefferson and I am also a member of the Historic Jefferson Foundation. I am also an active member of the Jessie Allen Wise Garden Club and the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Marion County Chamber of Commerce.
I always wanted to own a B&B and always talked about this dream. However, the conversation always went “When I retire,…” I finally realized that I did not want to wait until I retired and that I should take on this project while I had the energy to do it.
Running my unique Jefferson lodging has been a dream come true! I have had a wonderful time meeting all of the amazing people that come through my front door and I list my favorite moments as those where I get to sit and visit with my guests.
I invite you to come stay with me and allow me to help you unwind. Come sit on my beautiful wrap-around porch or in the warm and cozy parlor. Enjoy your morning coffee while sitting in the garden courtyard and watching the birds play.
I can’t wait to meet you!
